(Sorghum bicolor) An improved version of Orange first grown by the Kansas Agricultural Research Station in 1883. Selection and purification were performed by the Kansas Station and improved lines were released and grown commercially in Kansas until at least the 1930's. Plants grow 7-8 foot tall, producing juicy green stems that are traditionally pressed to release a sweet juice that is cooked down into a thick, amber syrup. 120 days to harvest. 100 seeds per packet. CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 4" apart, 1/2" deep in rows 30" apart. Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 7-10 days. Once seedlings are established, thin to one plant every 8".
