This bunching onion has long, slender roots that are harvested as large scallions. Reaching about 12 to 15" tall, the stalk bottoms are pure white, while the pungent, flavorful tops are medium green. Use fresh or cook as you would onions or scallions.

Ideal for summer and fall harvests, they can be blanched in the garden for 14"-16" long white shanks. Slice these sweet onions and juicy, bluish green tops into salads, or serve whole on a vegetable platter. Not just for Asian cuisine, these onions can be added to soups, stews, and stir-fry dishes.

The Tokyo Long White Bunching Onion – or Scallion – is an extremely tasty Japanese heirloom variety. Produces lovely white stalks with green leaves. Use Tokyo Long White Bunching Scallions in soups, stir-fries, and omelets.

Onions are easy to grow, have a fairly short growing period and take up little space in the garden. Plant onions 1/4 inch deep and 3 to 4 inches apart in double rows, leaving 6 to 10 inches between rows. For repeated harvests of bunching onion greens, clip plants about an inch above the soil surface, and they will regrow. USDA Zone: 3-9.
