Dianthus Chinensis is often referred to as Chinese Pink or Indian Pink, but the name actually is not related to the color of the flower, but rather to the physical appearance: the serrated edges of the flowers' petals make it appear as though it has been cut with pinking shears. This beauty has a low-growing nature (only reaching a height of 8 inches), and it looks truly wonderful in the front of borders or in containers.. This Merry-Go-Round Dianthus variety is single flowered, with blooms of white sporting a red ring. It is truly a unique Dianthus Chinensis flower and it will add a burst of brightness to your landscape. Delightful Annual How to Grow Sow dianthus seed indoors 4 - 6 weeks before the last expected frost. Use a sterile starter mix and surface sow seeds before covering lightly with soil. Keep seeds moist until germination. Under proper conditions, seeds will germinate in 1-2 weeks. Transplant established seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Dianthus chinensis, or commonly known as Chinese Pink or Indian Pink, forms low mounds of foliage. Growing from the mound are strong little stems with dainty white flowers with a ring of red around the center.
This dianthus is an 8 inch tall annual growing in USDA zones 4 - 8.
Dianthus Merry-Go-Round will bloom throughout the summer especially when the spent blooms are deadheaded. This Dianthus only reaches 8 inches in height, so it works well edging the front of the border or bed. It makes a wonderful container plant as it prefers good drainage.
Bloom Color White & red. The little Dianthus flowers also make great cut flowers.
Sowing Rate 4 - 5 seeds per plant. Start the seed indoors several weeks before the end of frost season. Or, directly start the seed outdoors after frosts have passed. Cover the seed thinly with soil and keep it moist. At a temperature of 65 - 70F, normal germination is within 21 days.
